I don’t know about you, but I love miniature versions of things. An average size rug is nice and all, but an itty bitty rug? Adorable!
For these rugs I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton in Coral Sea and 4mm needles.
This project is super simple and a gauge isn’t really necessary. The rug without fringe measures about 5in by 3.5in. The dimensions are totally up to you and you can make the fringe as long as you want. These rugs are very beginner friendly, all you need to know is how to knit and purl! To do the stockinette stitch simply knit one row across and purl the next row, alternating between knit and purl rows for the entire project.
Knit Mug Rug:
Cast on 24 stitches using your preferred cast on method.
Knit 18 rows in Stockinette, Bind off.
For the fringe, cut 36 pieces of yarn about 3-4 inches long. Loop the pieces through the end stitch on each side. Cut the strands to your desired length and use a fine-tooth comb (I actually used one of my husband’s spare beard combs) to comb out the ends, creating a fringe look.
It’s that simple! I hope you enjoy your new tiny rug, happy yarning!
